Rollers break from fatigue failure. The alternating moving of the roller away from the helix (roller path), then returning to the helix (roller path) with an impact; a cyclic impact. You’ve heard at least one clunk since the day you’ve drove a Ski-Doo from 2006 to today. That clunk is the roller returning to the helix with an impact. The roller fails from a cumulative crack generation.

• Death braking; coming down a path real hot, seeing something to avoid, jam on the brake (roller moves from the helix), time it right with full throttle to jump the thing. Upon full throttle, the roller returns to the helix – clunk.
• Frustration, slight temper; Getting caught in a pocket of trees, and having to do a literal 20 point turn, back and forth, back and forth to get yourself out. Move backwards 2 feet, clunk. Steer, move forwards 2 feet, clunk. Move backwards 2 feet, clunk. Steer, move forwards 2 feet, clunk. Move backwards 2 feet, clunk. Steer, move forwards 2 feet, clunk. get it…
• Trying to get unstuck in bottomless snow; Putting sled in reverse, going almost full throttle, secondary opens up, roller impacts the reverse notch. Going forward, roller impacts helix again. Keep doing that, induce a cumulative crack in the roller.
• Utility vehicle with transmission; Loaded down sled, having to “sling shot” the sled/trailer combination. The inherent looseness in the transmission from going reverse to forward, clunk, clunk, again, induce a cumulative crack in the roller – roller fails.
